Members of a commission with the State Electoral Institute extended for over a month the time to approve a request to hold a referendum regarding abortion in Baja California.
The extension was approved unanimously the Commission of Citizen Participation and Civic Education to respond to a request filed by anti-abortion activists.
The vote gives board members until March 24 to respond to the petition.
The referendum proposal was filed Jan. 13 along with over 34,000 valid voter signatures. The proposal seeks to reverse legislation approved by the Assembly to allow abortion until the twelfth week of pregnancy.
