A man who was allegedly attempting to smuggle an immigrant to the US was nabbed by Mexicali police officers Sunday.
The incident occurred at 2 a.m. in Colon Avenue and Azueta Street in downtown Mexicali.
The suspect was identified as Jose Guadalupe, 42.
The police said the suspect and an immigrant were observed by agents while attempting to climb over the border fence using a stair made with tubes of plastic.
A 30-year-old immigrant from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, told the police the suspect charged him $5,800 to help him cross the border. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Mexican Attorney General’s office for human trafficking.
