Mexicali archer and Olympic medalist Luis Alvarez traveled over the weekend to Puerto Rico to take part in the qualifying tournament for the Central American Games.
Alvarez, better known as Abuelo, attends the Bayamon tournament as Mexico’s number one male archer.
The bronze medalist of Tokyo 2020 recently won the National Indoors Tournament held in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, as well as the Mexican qualifier held in Mexico City.
Alvarez will be joined in the Island of Enchantment by fellow archers Emilio Treviño, of Nuevo León and Jesús del Angel Flores, of Coahuila.
The Central American Games of San Salvador 2023 is also a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Mexican Federation of Archery plans to take the nation’s athletes to other world tournaments and the Pan American Games of Santiago, Chile, next year.
