After a man who allegedly killed a woman while driving under the influence in a car accident was released from custody the Attorney General’s office seeks to arrest the suspect once again.
Assistant Attorney General in Mexicali Pedro Ariel Mendívil said he met relatives of the victim, to whom he assured justice will be served.
On Sept. 12, the suspect, who was identified as Edgar Michelle Doe, was allegedly driving a Honda HRV by Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard and Rio Mocorito Street at excess speed and under the influence of drugs.
The suspect crashed on a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The passenger, who was identified as Rubí, died at the scene, while the driver got injured in the accident.
A judge released the suspect given the driver was turned to the court over three hours of his arrest, which is considered illegal.
The Assistant Attorney General met recently with Rubí relatives to discuss the issue.
Mendívil said the suspect will be cited once again by month’s end.
That same day a woman allegedly ran over and killed a 2 year old boy. The suspect was also released from custody under the same circumstances of the latter case.
Assistant Attorney General Hiram Sanchez said these and other cases in which the agency has failed justice will be served.
