Industry Chamber of Mexicali President Alberto Sánchez said the border crossing restrictions lift will positively benefit the region’s economy.
Sanchez told La Crónica newspaper that the lifting announced last week that will go into effect next month is expected to particularly benefit Tourism.
According to the industrial leader the region already has the proper health and economic conditions to allow Mexicans to enter the US.
“We are a community of two cities divided by a fence,” Sanchez told the newspaper. “At the end of the day it was a unilateral decision (as) they (Americans) could come and not us.”
Although the commercial port has always been open, hours of operation were also reduced like the East Port of Entry that impacted productivity for private companies, Sánchez said. Few days ago the commercial port had some hours-long issues that caused delays.
