Brawley native pitcher Jake Sanchez has been hired by a Dominican baseball club for postseason.

Sanchez, a relief pitcher of Aguilas de Mexicali baseball club was hired by Aguilas de Cibao. However, Jake Mate is familiar with Caribbean baseball as last year played for Venezuela’s Anzoategui team, winning one game.

The Imperial Valley native had this year his best season with the Mexicali team, breaking the record of saves with 26 and winning three times the Pitcher of the Week award.

Sanchez was highlighted for his performance after a 1.69 ERA and 48 strikeouts, becoming second in the League.

On Monday, the Mexicali team announced Sanchez as a selection by Sultanes de Monterrey for the postseason semifinals. Panamanian pitcher Enrique Burgos, who was second in saves for Mexicali, will play for Gigantes de Cibao.
