The National Chamber of Transportation in Mexicali has demanded the Mexican Customs Agency to unveil plans to strengthen security in the East Commercial Port of Entry.
Chamber Delegate in Mexicali Luciano Jimenez told La Voz newspaper that while the US has already announced and started out with the remodeling of the American side Mexico has not done so.
According to the chamber president, US authorities plan to expand the bridge in order to have two northbound lanes and two southbound lanes.
Jimenez acknowledged that wait times have seen a reduction after US authorities reinforced inspections.
Weeks ago, Customs and Border Protection shut down the commercial port after groups of immigrants attempted to cross the border through the area. Jimenez said a request was made to Mexican Customs authorities to receive information about the plans.
