The city of Mexicali modified its budget proposal for next year In order to withdraw its business license provisions.

Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante said the license that would have cost a maximum of $850 was removed after receiving negative comments from lawmakers and Council members.

The Mayor said the fee was expected to get charged in 2023 in order to recover costs for enforcement.

However, lawmakers and council members expressed harsh remarks about the proposal.

The withdrawal was voted on Tuesday evening. In the meeting the council also modified fees for concerns and live entertainment events. The modification allows single parents to apply for a 50 percent discount in Street vending and a similar discount for nonprofits holding entertainment events.
