A state lawmaker requested an investigation of two homes for children after a couple incidents were reported recently.
Assemblywoman Santa Alejandrina Corral introduced a resolution proposal in order to ask the Human Rights Commission and the Family Development Agency (DIF in Spanish) to investigate the incidents.
The lawmaker recalled that a suicide of a 13-year-old boy occurred in the Oasis home for children while a 16-year-old minor was kidnapped by an armed man in the A Way Out home for children.
The latter incident led the Attorney General’s office to activate an Amber Alert in order to find the kidnapped minor.
The lawmaker said these homes for children are supposed to protect minors.
“This leads us to question if the DIF, which is the agency in charge of supervising these homes for children, is constantly supervising these sites,” Corral said.
The lawmaker asked for a thorough investigation in order to implement legal and disciplinary actions and hold those I charge responsible. The request includes asking for a report to the Assembly.
