Mexicali Police Chief Joel Hidalgo said 235 patrol cars and the agency’s 1,246 police officers will take part in the operation.
For Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the number of checkpoints is expected to increase to 24.
State and Mexican law enforcement agencies will also be included in the operation.
