The City of Mexicali opened Thursday a Christmas Village made with recycled items in the Juventud 2000 Park south of the city.

The site will be open until Jan. 9 seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Village includes a nativity scene made with used tires and a Christmas tree made with recycled plastic bottles.

“The goal is to show visitors how to create things with recycled materials,” Park Director Jesus Arturo Alanis told La Voz newspaper. Entrance to the village costs about $0.35. Funds raised will help purchase equipment for teams that train in the park.
