The City of Mexicali plans to lease about 160 police vehicles, Mayor Norma Bustamante said.

The mayor explained these leases will cost the city about $100 million pesos or around $5 million. Funds will come from the property tax increase, La Crónica newspaper reported.

According to the mayor, issues have been detected in the RFP, but she hopes to overcome the obstacles to launch the process soon.

City Treasurer Roger Sosa said property tax collection has increased 25 percent compared to last year.

The officials said 60 vehicles are lease renewals and the other hundred are new leases. Also, the city said 100 of those vehicles are trucks and the rest are sedans.
