Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante said the dozens of patrol cars that were leased by her predecessor will be extended.

The lease was due Sept. 30.

The Mayor said she was able to extend the lease term 42 days and an additional three months more.

La Voz newspaper reported that the Mayor considered the term extension would give the city time to determine if the company complied with the contract.

Mexicali police has 400 patrol cars, of which 100 need repairs. Regarding the radio communication system, Mayor Bustamante said although the city purchased a new console it is not compatible with the State’s system.
