A Mexicali City Council member called for the resignation of a city official after the approval of a show organizing contract to a close friend.
Councilman Manuel García, with the National Action Party, said in a press conference held Tuesday Center of Events and Fairs Director Omar Landa should submit his resignation for contracting businessman and close friend Javier Doñates Martínez.
The businessman will get 15 million pesos or about $750,000 through the contract.
Donates Martínez was the sole bidder of the RFP.
Director Landa previously said his friends have taken part in these RFPs.
The director, who is also known for characterizing “La Maruja” in TV shows, also said he is a friend to many people.
The National Action Party filed a complaint against Landa with the City Comptroller’s office. “We know there is a close, personal relationship with the Mayor,” Councilman García said. “We must be responsible. We cannot allow this to happen.”
