Four craft beer businesses had presumably reported intoxicated customers in recent weeks, according to state reports.
The authorities said these companies had been unregulated.
State Commission to Protect against Sanitary Risks Director Marco Gámez said consuming contaminated craft beer produces diarrhea and stomach pain.
The state official said the agency has tested the eleven craft beer businesses located in Mexicali, of which four tested with high rates of bacteria.
The director declined to provide the names of those companies.
Gámez said business owners must take special care in the production process.
The director explained that although craft beer producers had said no regulations had been adopted here, the authorities plan to follow international standards to protect consumers. Gámez said companies will be forced to report issues to consumers.
