The city of Mexicali observed an increase of crimes during December, according to media reports.

La Voz newspaper reported that the increase was especially registered in property crimes.

Based on reports from the State Attorney General’s office the city witnessed 2,540 crimes, of which 1,052 were robberies, burglaries and others alike.

The figure represents a climb of 7 percent compared to November.

The newspaper said the number of crimes reported last month was the largest of the year.

According to the report, last month the city registered 270 vehicle thefts, 122 home burglaries and 164 robberies in public ways — increases of 23 percent, 18 percent and 11 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, business robberies observed a 10 percent decline. During December, the city had 23 homicides for a total of 286 for 2021.
