After three weeks of classroom instruction the state of Baja California has reported eleven confirmed cases of Covid-19 and three more suspicious.

State Secretary of Public Health Alonso Pérez Rico said 34,949 students of elementary, high school and college levels had returned to in-school instruction.

The figure represents a 72 percent school attendance.

The secretary said two schools and eight classrooms had been closed due to the Coronavirus cases.

La Voz newspaper said three of those confirmed cases were detected in Mexicali schools.

Sec. Pérez Rico said those cases were expected although the state has implemented protocols in schools. However, the official highlighted the low number of cases given the thousands of students and teachers that returned to school.Acting Secretary of Education Gerardo Solís said more schools were opened this week under health supervision to protect students, teachers and staff.
