Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante said the recently held Fiestas del Sol fair left an increased debt and other financial issues.

The city was forced to pay the salaries of fair staff due to the constraints.

Mayor Bustamante questioned this year’s fair as the organizing committee has a significant debt.

Besides, some suppliers were left without payment while the city lacks 1.5 million peso to hold the Christmas Village in the next weeks.

Former Fair Board Chairman Carlos Rios previously said the event was a success while saving about 2 million peso.

Days before the fair the board requested several million pesos to hold the event that the City Council denied.

Then Mayor Guadalupe Mora said the city was able to lend some money to the fair in order to make sure the event was going to take place.
