About one in every seven cases of domestic violence recorded in the city end up with the arrest of the perpetrator.

According to media reports, police officers arrest suspects in just 14 percent of cases.

Most of those cases are perpetrated against women, Assistant Police Chief for Prevention Ivan Camacho said. Mexicali Police has received 128 calls of domestic violence in the year, of which only nine suspects were arrested while ten were detained for other misdemeanors, ten more were turned in to the Family Development Agency and four victims were transported to the city’s shelter.
