The term of Governor Jaime Bonilla has ended with over 5,700 homicides, according to Attorney General’s office records.
As of September, the state of Baja California reported 2,367 homicides, an 8 percent increase compared to the 2,198 cases recorded last year.
Bonilla’s term started in Nov. 2019.
According to the reports, every month 250 people are assassinated in the state.
The City of Tecate has registered the highest increase with 120 percent, followed by Mexicali with 37 percent.
The report indicates that murder raised 56 percent in the two year term of Bonilla compared to the last couple years of his predecessor Francisco Vega, of the conservative National Action Party.
