Mexicali Chamber of Commerce President Lidia Granados said besides residents the fuel supply issue has also significantly impacted businesses.

Gas stations that sell US brand gasoline stopped importing highly priced American fuel and had decided to offer gasoline distributed by government owned company Petróleos Mexicanos, better known as Pemex.

This, combined with the increase of mobility due to the lifting of pandemic restrictions has led to supply issues. Consumers had waited for hours in order to purchase fuel for their vehicles.

Granados told La Voz newspaper that Imperial Valley consumers had started purchasing gasoline in Mexicali as well — worsening the issue.

According to media reports supply issues have been addressed by Pemex in the last few days.

Granados said Pemex must increase fuel supply in Mexicali or expect prices in the US to decline to start observing the issue. The chamber president said the issue must be solved soon or it will impact visitors who arrive in the state for the Holy Week. This weekend San Felipe is expected to increase tourism due to the San Felipe 250 off-road race.
