Contrary to her soon-to-be predecessor, Governor elect Marina Avila will take the oath of office next week in Mexicali.

Governor Jaime Bonilla did take the oath in a small ceremony held in the state Assembly in 2019, but the day after a major event took place in Tijuana’s Cultural Center.

The state Assembly approved a resolution previously voted by the Political Coordinating Council to authorize using Mexicali’s State Arts Center as a provisional legislative venue to hold the event at 5 p.m. on Halloween. Avila’s six-year term runs from November 2021 to October 2027.
