About a dozen immigrants from Bangladesh and Nepal wait to see in Mexicali if the United States will grant them asylum, according to media reports.
Activist Gonzalo Pacheco, of the Group of Help for Immigrants of Mexicali, said all of the immigrants are men of between 20 and 30 years of age.
All of them are in good health and speak no Spanish, Pacheco said.
Pacheco added that an organization named Hais is helping immigrants to obtain asylum through the United Nations Agency for Refugees and the World Organization for Immigrants.
Some of the immigrants were first stopped in the state of Sonora and transported to Mexicali, while the rest were detained in the airport. According to Pacheco the immigrants had a court permission to travel throughout the country.
