A state lawmaker introduced a resolution that seeks a report from state authorities about the lack of medicines in public institutions and how the issue is being solved.

Assemblywoman Alejandrina Corral, of the National Action Party, introduced the resolution to ask Secretary of Public Health Adrian Medina to report on the cases of former officials involved in corruption cases and complaints filed by cancer patients.

The report must also include measures adopted by the authorities on how the lack of medicine is being solved.

The resolution was approved by lawmakers.

Corral said it is urgent to start a dialogue between residents and authorities to address the issue.

The lack of medicine has also impacted people with underlying illnesses who have gone without treatment for months, she said. These patients lack resources to purchase their treatment in private pharmacies, the lawmaker said.
