A state lawmaker introduced a bill that, if enacted, would increase penalties on those convicted for robbery against minors.

The proposal would take those penalties from two to seven years. If the minor is disabled the penalties would climb to sixty years in prison.

Assemblywoman Araceli Geraldo said minors are not included as victims of this crime in the Penal Code.

She also said robberies against minors cannot be punished the same way as other crimes given the impact of such crime on victims.

The lawmaker said the bill seeks to protect minors. The proposal was turned to the Commission of Justice.
