A state lawmaker with the Workers’ Party has proposed to authorize teenagers for agriculture labor.

In a prepared statement Assemblywoman Claudia Agatón recalled that last month a reform to Mexico’s Labor Law was enacted in order to allow minors at least 15 years of age work in agriculture.

The lawmaker said local legislation is needed to protect minors from working in dangerous areas and protect children.

According to Agatón all children need tools for development and right protection. The enacted law forbids teenagers from performing risky labor activities like chemical and machinery usage.
