State lawmakers approved a resolution that calls authorities to launch transit bus lines for the handicapped.

The proposal was introduced by independent Assemblyman Miguel Peña, who also chairs the Commission of Labor.

The resolution calls Director of Sustainable Mobility Institute Jorge Alberto Gutiérrez to provide permits for new bus lines for handicapped residents.

Assemblyman Peña said the agency must provide transportation services to vulnerable communities while complying with state law.

At the same time, the agency must make sure transit companies include in their buses infrastructure to transport handicapped people like ramps and trained staff. So far, transit bus operators have no equipment for handicapped or senior residents.
