Along party lines state lawmakers voted Monday against the budget reports of the last conservative National Action Party Mayor of Mexicali.
Assemblywoman Alejandra Ang, who chairs the Commission of Auditing of Public Funds, introduced the proposal that was previously voted by Commission members.
The reports corresponded to the years 2017, 2018 and 2019, when the city was led by Mayor Gustavo Sanchez.
National Action Party lawmakers abstained from voting.
National Action Party Assemblywoman Alejandrina Corral recalled that a recent Constitutional reform mandates that these budget reports must first be analyzed by an independent audit agency before voting and to avoid political influence.
The lawmaker demanded a similar reform to the local constitution. Assemblywoman Ang said the Commission keeps working according to auditing law and regulations.
