A man was detained over the weekend after the police found the suspect having his 9-year-old girl selling chocolates on the street.
Mexicali Police said the incident took place at 5:30 p.m. by the intersection of Cuauhtémoc Avenue and Río Presidio Street.
Police agents were patrolling the area when the girl was observed leaving a restaurant holding several chocolates in her hand.
The minor was seen exhausted, the police said.
Officers approached the girl, who told the authorities their parents were on a white 1997 Honda.
The police found both the minor’s father and mother.
Police agents issued a warning to the mother while the father, who was identified as Jorge Adrian, was detained.
The police explained parents must justify and provide evidence of financial need in order to avoid arrest.
The suspect was turned to the state Attorney General’s office.
