A man was sentenced by a state judge to serve 23 years in prison after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors for a Sept. 2020 homicide.

The state Attorney General’s office said Benjamin Jaime Hernandez Granados, no age reported, was found guilty of the homicide of Adolfo Gonzalez Rodriguez.

The agency said the convicted man and another individual assaulted the victim with a machete in a residence located in the Fraccionamiento Misión del Ángel area.

The victim died at the scene.

The suspects were arrested by Mexicali police after a witness reported the incident. The judge also ruled that the suspect must pay 868,800 pesos or around $43,440 for repair of damages to the victim’s relatives.
