A Mexicali Valley pitcher will debut with the Oakland Athletics in the MLB.
Adrian Martinez, 25, will face the Detroit Tigers in the second of two games held at Comerica Park.
Baseball club Aguilas de Mexicali announced that coach Mark Kotsay hired the pitcher who has played for the Las Vegas Aviators of the Pacific Coast League.
Last month, the A’s traded Sean Manaea and Aaron Holiday to the San Diego Padres for Martinez and Euribel Angeles.
Martínez has been assigned to AAA clubs like Fort Wayne TinCaps, San Antonio Missions and El Paso Chihuahuas.
The pitcher has a record in the MLB of 21-20, with an ERA of 4.47.
With the Aviators Martinez has struck out 25 batters in 19.1 innings.
The player has been a pitcher for Aguilas since 2018.
Last year Martinez was named AA Central Pitcher of the Week and Texas League Pitcher of the Month. Martínez joins Jorge Rubio, Tony Perezchica, Guillermo Velazquez, David Cardenas, Francisco Rodriguez and Roman Ali Solis as Aguilas players who had joined MLB clubs.
