Mexicali swimmer Martha Sandoval qualified for the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The local athlete was second in the 10 K National Open Waters Tournaments held in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico and qualified to the world championships.
Her sister Martha was sixth in the same competition.
Ensenada swimmer Arturo Pérez-Vertti was third in the men’s tournament and also qualified to the world championships.
Mexicali swimmer Daniel Castillo was unable to qualify after finishing fourth.
Both Sandoval and Pérez-Vertti had returned to the state in order to continue their training at the Mexicali Sports Complex Aquatic Center before traveling for the June 18-July 3 world championship. This will be Sandoval’s third world championship after competing in Budapest 2017 and Kwangju, South Korea 2019.
