The suspension of energy service to immigrant shelters was discussed recently by a Mexican official who said the situation is not under control of the government.

Mexican government delegate in Mexicali Jaime Rojo said the Federal Electricity Commission has asked to recover all past due energy bills.

Recently, the Mexican agency decided to cut services as immigrant shelters missed paying energy bills.

Shelter directors had criticized the federal administration for their lack of support to help those coming from other countries.

Rojo said the issue has been discussed with activists.

The delegate has told shelter managers the issue is not under the Mexican government jurisdiction although the Commission is managed at the federal level. Rojo said a bill is being prepared to reduce energy costs to immigrant shelters.
