A state lawmaker introduced a bill that seeks to modify the Baja California Sustainable Mobility and Transportation Law to allow the operation of motorcycle taxi cabs.
Assemblyman Ramon Vazquez introduced a proposal to change three articles of the law.
The measure, if enacted, would allow taxi drivers of all platforms and services to use motorcycles to provide such services.
According to the lawmaker the bill would specifically benefit indigenous people.
“The pandemic has brought the need that we turn constructive and proactive to solve economic issues caused by this worldwide public health event,” the lawmaker said.
Mexico’s Census reported last year that over 49,000 residents are of indigenous descent. Vázquez said the proposal was suggested by indigenous communities.
