The state of Baja California has reported no monkey pox cases, a state official said.

Secretary of Public Health Adrian Medina said the authorities had already launched activities to monitor and address any cases recorded in Baja California.

The state official said COVID-19 and the fact that the illness has been first detected in other countries gives an advantage to local agencies.

Sec. Medina declined to say monkey pox represents a new pandemic.

After an imported case was reported days ago in México City the national government released an action plan that must be followed by states to address the issue. The protocol includes preventive and reporting measures to provide treatment to those with monkey pox.
