A police officer involved shooting left a man with a machete injured Wednesday.

According to media reports the incident took place at noon in the Valle de Puebla area in southeastern Mexicali.

The police said agents observed in the area of Tomellin Avenue and San Marcos Street the individual who had machete in the waist.

Upon approaching the individual the suspect yelled profanities at the agents and allegedly attempted to cause injuries to one of the agents.

Police officers unsuccessfully asked the suspect to drop the weapon.

Then, the agents brandished their firearms and shot at the suspect in the face.

The suspect kept holding the machete in his hand.

Neighbors started throwing rocks to the agents and caused damage to a patrol vehicle.

A cousin transported the injured man to a hospital.

The injured man was identified as Ruben, 38. It is unclear if the injured man was arrested.
