A state official provided Wednesday little details about the E. coli bacteria found in four bottles of craft beer of Mexicali breweries.

State Commission to protect against Sanitary Risks Director Marco Gámez said of the eleven businesses examined statewide that tested positive, four are located in Mexicali.

The state official declined to provide more details about the companies.

So far, the state has not closed any breweries.

Director Gámez explained that 100 bottles of craft beer were tested.

During the last three months craft beer has caused 12 patients treated for diarrhea and other intestinal infections.

The authorities had already spoken to the Brewery Association to discuss the matter.

According to the director the bacteria can cause severe stomach illnesses to people with compromised immune systems.

Gámez said more bottles will be tested in the coming future to determine the next steps forward.
