A Mexicali pediatrician was sixth nationwide in the testing held by the Mexican Council of Pediatrics Certification.

Baja California authorities said over 800 pediatricians took place in the testing.

Mexicali pediatrician Martha Paola Franco-López, a School of Medicine graduate who held her three-year residency in the Mexicali General Hospital, took the test on Feb. 19.

General Hospital Director Miguel Bernardo Romero said professionals who seek to get a certificate from councils or associations must first take the test in order to make sure they are competent in the discipline.

Director Romero said the council wrote a letter certifying Dr. Franco-López was acknowledged for obtaining the sixth place nationwide. The authorities said by testing and certifying pediatricians the council seeks to promote health of children and teenagers by making sure professionals comply with the organization’s standards.
