Mexicali police officers who were patrolling the southern part of the city were able to stop a kidnapping attempt, according to the authorities.
The incident took place at 3:10 a.m. Thursday in the Colonia Rivera Campestre area.
The suspect was identified as Gabriel Alberto, 26.
According to the authorities the suspect knocked at the 50-year-old male victim’s home.
The victim opened the door and the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm to force the resident to get on board his own gray 2010 Dodge Charger.
A patrol car was driving by the area when the attempted kidnapping was ongoing, the police said.
The suspect then tried to flee but was stopped and arrested in a gas station located in Santiago Vidaurri Avenue and San Felipe Highway.
The police found inside the vehicle a chromed UZI machine gun loaded with a magazine.
The suspect was apprehended and transported to the East Substation.
