A state official said close to 120 schools had been seriously vandalized during the pandemic.

State Secretary of Education Gerardo Arturo Solis said although schools are set to reopen Jan. 4 some were reportedly vandalized in the last eight months, La Crónica newspaper reported.

The official said four out of every five of the seriously vandalized schools are located in Mexicali and Tijuana.

In the meantime close to 850 schools are considered as lowly vandalized while 1,056 are in good condition.

Sec. Solis said some schools will not be ready for reopening, but students will still get educational services.

Although the state has funds for average maintenance the agency expects additional funds for reconditioning.

So far the state has reopened 717 schools for in classroom instruction. Of those thirteen had been closed due to Covid-19 cases.
