An immigrant from El Salvador threatened Monday to kill himself in the West Port of Entry after demanding to be transported back to his country.

The incident took place about 11 a.m. in the Colon Avenue vehicle crossing.

According to media reports the immigrant, who was identified as Ovidio, 43, climbed into one of the pipes that cross on top of the crossing.

Witnesses reported the incident to the emergency center.

The authorities deployed a fire engine to the area, while police officers tried to convince the immigrant to get down the pipe.

The report says the immigrant was unable to cross to the U.S. and to get a job in Mexicali. National Immigration Institute staff convinced the individual to get down after offering transportation to his country.
