The new municipality of Mexicali was legally born Saturday.
The incorporation of the seventh municipality of Baja California was signified during a ceremony led by State Secretary of Government Catalino Zavala, along lawmakers and other officials.
In a prepared statement Governor Marina Avila said she hopes the incorporation gives the new city an opportunity of development.
he governor also said the state will help San Felipe authorities to promote economic activities.
The incorporation was a decades-long demand from local residents. It wasn’t until last year that the Assembly approved the creation of the seventh municipality of Baja California without the endorsement from the past Mexicali Mayor Guadalupe Mora based on the lack of feasibility studies. “Today, for Baja California, this event represents, besides the adding of willingness and democratic vocation, the transformation of Baja California,” Sec. Zavala said.
