The state of Baja California gained a Mexican congressional seat after the Census showed the needed population increase to get another lawmaker.

National Electoral Institute Board member Ciro Murayama said the state reported the largest population increase with 8.97 percent.

Baja California became home to an additional of over 611,000 people between 2010 and 2020.

Baja California is one of the six states that gained congressional seats.

On the contrary, Mexico City, along with the states of Guerrero, México and Tamaulipas lost legislative seats. Baja California’s congress members will increase to nine from eight until the 2030 elections.
