A state official said the authorities ignore the date when teenage vaccination will start.

However the same official supported a proposal by Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador to first register minors.

State Secretary of Public Health Alonso Perez Rico said first the authorities must register minors 12-17 with underlying illnesses for vaccination.

Baja California is home to about 600,000 minors of that age.

“There will be a plan in Baja California,” Sec. Perez Rico said. “It must be an orderly, planned and coordinated strategy and dependent on vaccination availability.”

The state official highlighted that Governor Jaime Bonilla leads the state effort and is the only individual who decides who’s vaccinated next.
