The state of Baja California leads the nation in terms of rate of women murdered, according to official reports.

National Public Safety System records say as of September the state has reported 251 homicides of women.

The report says that 13.59 women were assassinated for every 100,000 residents. The rate is over four times the national average of 3.2.

Second in the list is the state of Guanajuato with 238 victims and Chihuahua with 204. The Mexican government activated in June a gender alert requested by the State Human Rights Commission that forced the state to launch a series of initiatives to address violence against women.
