The state of Baja California paid Wednesday several hundred million pesos that Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante demanded weeks ago.

In a prepared statement the city said the state paid back 263.8 million pesos or about $13 million in federal funds withheld for the last couple years.

City Treasurer Roger Sosa said the state owed 561 million since 2019.

The treasurer said the state still owes the city 15 million pesos in interest and 153.1 million since the former Governor Francisco Vega time.

According to the city official the payment allows Mexicali address end of year liabilities.
