The state of Baja California has paid 42 of the 562 million peso owed to the City of Mexicali in federal funds owed for the last two years.

So far, the state has paid 100 million peso or about $5 million this week after Mayor Norma Bustamante demanded Governor Jaime Bonilla for the payment of the full amount immediately.

City Treasurer Roger Sosa said the funds paid will allow the city to cover expenses expected in the last quarter of the year.

The city has no plans to file a complaint, the treasurer said. However, city council members of the National Action Party previously announced the filing of a lawsuit against Gov. Bonilla for the controversy.
