Baja California Governor Marina Avila said the state has been seeking hundreds of millions pesos with the Mexican government in order to pay teachers.

During a meeting recently held with members of the Local 2 of the National Education Workers Union Gov. Avila said the state has requested 650 million pesos or about $32.5 million in order to pay teachers.

The state also owes active and retired state employees, as well as healthcare employees.

Gov. Avila said she has met officials with the Mexican Department of Government and with the Department of the Treasury. State Secretary of Education Gerardo Solis also took part of the meeting.
