The state of Baja California will remain under the yellow tier of the epidemiological light system until January 9.
State Secretary of Public Health Adrian Medina said Baja California is one of the four Mexican states that will stay in yellow.
The state official said although the number of new cases has been lowering border mobility and seasonal respiratory illnesses must also be considered to keep Baja California in the medium risk tier.
“The pandemic continues. It does not recognize holidays or family gatherings,” Sec. Medina said. “We must keep taking care of ourselves.”
The tier allows public venues to operate under a 75 percent capacity, but following protocol including social distancing and mandatory use of face masks.
Also, the state has observed a reduction of hospitalized patients.
In Christmas, the state recorded 265 new cases, of which close to a quarter were reported in Mexicali. The city has also recorded over 34,000 accumulated positive cases and more than 3,900 deaths.
