The state of Baja California started Wednesday the delivery of thousands of subsidized energy cards to Mexicali residents.

The state plans to reach out to over 36,000 families, mostly in Mexicali and San Felipe.

The Secretary of Wellbeing Netzahualcoyotl Jáuregui said the agency will spend 41 million pesos or little over $2 million.

Of the benefited families 28,695 live in Mexicali and San Felipe — the mostly heat-impacted municipalities in Baja California. The benefit also includes low-income families in other municipalities.
